Model 636G

WHI’s Model 636G brings together the design of the Model 530G with the external array structure of the Model 1500. It will use 12-foot blades instead of the 10-foot blades of the Model 530G and thus increase its rotor swept area to 636 square feet. With the same 25 kW generator it will have a higher capacity factor and a better swept area to cost ratio. Because the blades will be aligned to appear as four 36' blades, it will have 1/3 the drag-creating blade ends and an improved aspect ratio.

The Model 530G has been proven through ten thousand plus hours of field-testing. Its extruded blades use 6061 T6 aluminum and, like all WHI turbines, have moment-free connections to the blade arms, which contribute greatly to their durability. New computer modeling shows that the blades can be aligned so that instead of the three modules of blades in the Model 530G, where each blade had two unique blade arms, the Model 636G’s blades share blade arms between modules. This reduces blade arms from 24 in the Model 530G to 16 in the Model 636G and 24 blade end connections to 8, with a similar reduction in drag. The alignment of the blades also will realize a greater aspect ratio and thus more lift and efficient conversion of wind energy to torque.

The Model 636G will have a 25 kW generator and can be installed as a single turbine or as Linear Array Vortex Turbine Systems (LAVTS) of two turbines or more. In a LAVTS formation, the per turbine energy output will increase because of the “coupled vortex” effect. The predicted per turbine energy output in a three array is listed below.
