  Meridian Energy would have to revegetate the equivalent of 360
  rugby fields of land after it constructed a wind farm in Central Otago.

WIND FARM MOOTED FOR NZ'S ANTARCTICA BASE

  Scott Base could soon be home to New Zealand's southernmost wind
  farm. Antarctica New Zealand chief executive Lou Sanson said the
  organisation, along with Meridian Energy staff, was in the very
  early stages of researching wind as an alternative power source on
  the frozen continent.

AEP TESTS PUBLIC'S DEMAND FOR CLEAN ENERGY

  American Electric rower announced Aug. 8 that it would purchase
  200 megawatts of capacity from an Indiana wind farm, noting that
  the arrangement is conditional. It depends on approval by
  rate-setting commissions in Indiana, Michigan and West Virginia.

  The unanimous vote sets the stage for a study that would look
  closely at possible sites for a wind turbine, such as Town Beach,
  the landfill and Mount Hope farm.

AUSTRALIAN GOVT GROUP TO CREATE NATIONAL CODE FOR WIND FARMS

  The federal government has  appointed a working group to create a
  national code for wind  farms. The group with be chaired by senior
  environment department officer Denis Smedley and includes
  representatives from local government, the Australian Wind Energy
  Association and the National Trust, as well as a farmer.

  Origin Energy Ltd  is considering buying wind farms, and says a
  shift to renewable  energy sources could potentially push
  electricity bills up by  20 per cent.

  Australian renewable energy company Pacific Hydro has finalized a
  windmill purchase agreement for stage III of its Portland Wind
  Energy Project in Victoria.

  Southland's first wind farm is to be officially opened by Prime
  Minister Helen Clark tomorrow. First power will be generated soon
  after noon at Meridian Energy's White Hill wind farm at Mossburn.

CITIES AGGREGATION POWER PROJECT ENABLES FIRST TEXAS TOWNS' PURCHASE
OF RENEWABLE ENERGY CREDITS

  Cities Aggregation Power Project  (CAPP) has announced that
  Addison, Carrollton, Eastland and Highland Park have  become the
  first Texas cities with populations less than 120,000 to authorize
   the purchase of Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) using a program
  created by the  statewide electricity aggregator for municipal governments.

  A citizens' group that opposes construction of a nine-turbine wind
  farm in Goodhue County has petitioned a state commission to
  reconsider the decision granting a final site permit to the project.

  Opponents of a controversial wind farm planned near Wellington are
  going back to court, claiming new evidence could limit the hours
  the project is allowed to run.

  standards for the development of wind farms.

  The UK National Trust and npower, the UK arm of German utility
  RWE, have launched a multi-million pound partnership at the heart
  of which is the National Trust Green Energy offering.

  This week will see what ministers have dubbed Green Energy Day in
  Scotland, as the opening of a new wind farm in East Lothian sees
  renewables overtake nuclear power.

  India-based industrial conglomerate Kalyani Group has acquired
  100% of RSBconsult as part of its plans to enter into the high

  Harrisburg Mayor Stephen R. Reed is backing off on developing wind
  turbines on city-owned land atop Peters Mountain.

  Sen. Brian Joyce would like to see a giant wind turbine sitting
  atop a peak within the Blue Hills Reservation that could produce
