BLOCKED US ENERGY BILL SLOWS WIND POWER PROJECTS

  The battle in Congress over an energy bill has delayed about $1
  billion in investment in planned wind power projects this year,
  with 300 workers already laid off, the industry's main trade group
  said on Friday.

WINDS CARRY MIGRATING BIRDS TO BLADES

  An environmental group on Monday sued two wind energy companies,
  claiming that wind farms they operate on the Altamont Pass are
  killing thousands of protected birds, including eagles, hawks and owls.

JUNO BEACH, FLA.-BASED ENERGY FIRM TO ACQUIRE WIND-ENERGY ASSETS

  FPL Energy LLC, headquartered in Juno Beach, Fla., has closed its
  deal to acquire 106 megawatts of California wind energy assets,
  including two facilities in Tehachapi, from Enron.

WIND AND WAVE ENERGY TO GENERATE NEW JOBS

  UP TO 35,000 jobs could be sustained by renewable energy by the
  year 2020, according to a new Government report.

GREEN ENERGY GIANT PICKS WALES FOR HQ

  SPANISH group, EHN, a world-leader in the renewable energy sector,
  has announced plans to invest pounds 350m in a UK renewable energy
  programme from new headquarters in South Wales.

BPA ANNOUNCES NEW WIND BACKUP PROGRAM

On January 13, the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) introduced a new service to help the region’s publicly owned utilities bring wind-generated power to their customers.  The first contract under the new program was with the Cowlitz County Public Utility District (PUD) in Longview, Wash.  Cowlitz is buying the output from 2 MW of the Nine Canyon wind energy project operated by Energy Northwest near Kennewick, Wash.  BPA has agreed to take the wind energy into its system, deliver the power as it is available, and provide the backup when wind generation is not available.
