PA GOVERNOR RENDELL SIGNS MEASURE MANDATING CLEAN-ENERGY PORTFOLIO STANDARD
Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell today signed into law a
clean-energy portfolio standard that will cut energy costs,
promote economic development and encourage technologies to protect
and restore the environment by ensuring more electricity

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson wants to develop more wind power
in his state and market it to other states in the West.

CLP HOLDING PARTNERS WITH CHNG TO DEVELOP WIND POWER
The CLP Holding Limited (CLP Holdings, 0002:HK), a listed company
on Hong Kong Stock Exchange, announced on December 5 that the
company had partnered with the subsidiary of China Huaneng Group
(CHNG), a state-owned enterprise, to develop wind power generation
in Changdao, Shandong province.

CNE, UNDP TO STUDY SUSTAINABLE ENERGY POLICY
Chile's energy regulator CNE and the United Nations Development
Program (UNDP) have signed an agreement to jointly develop a
sustainable energy policy, the CNE announced.

EIA 2005 OUTLOOK INCLUDES NEW PROJECTIONS FOR NATURAL GAS
The Energy Information Administration is expecting Canadian
natural gas imports into the U.S. to fall off in 2009, which is
about three years earlier than it projected last year.

Green power customers increase 23% in U.S.
WASHINGTON, DC, US, 2004-12-08 Refocus Weekly The United States had 6,813
net-metered electric customers last year, up 23% from 4,472 in 2002.
The majority of net-metered customers was in California, which had 4,869
residential and 373 non-residential customers, estimates the Energy
Information Administration in ‘Green Pricing & Net Metering Programs 2003.'
Arizona was a distant second with 29 residential and 301 non-residential
customers connected to their utility.
There were 127 electric industry participants reporting customers in net
metering programs, up from 96 in 2992, with residential customers accounting
for 86% of the total. There are net-metered customers in 39 states,
including four new states, and California’s participants represent 77% of
the national total.
Last year, there were 308 utilities with green pricing programs, up 45% from
2002, with a national total of 877,126 participants in 2003, up 23% from
2002. Residential customers account for 93% of the total, which is down from
97% share in 2002.
There are green pricing customers in 40 states, including six new states,
led by Ohio with 428,849 customers under a single provider. Pennsylvania was
in second place with 74,583 followed by Texas with 65,618 and California
with 60,626 customers.
Green pricing programs allow electricity customers to pay the additional
costs for renewable energy through direct payments on their monthly bills.
